• Drawings from a Life - Gabriella

  In 2017, Westminster Abbey invited young people from around London to respond to the stories and memories held in the fabric of the building. These young consultants reflected on their experience through a variety of outcomes creating a vibrant and eclectic body of work.

• The Cellarium Terrace

  This contemporary event space blends traditional and modern architecture, with views across to the Abbey’s west towers. There is also a small, private outdoor area.

  Flowers were laid outside the Great West Door of Westminster Abbey today (1st April) as part of a service to commemorate the sixtieth anniversary of the death of Pastor Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

  A memorial ledger stone in the north-west corner of the nave of Westminster Abbey to The Right Honourable The Lord Wilson of Rievaulx, KG, OBE, FRS was dedicated on Tuesday 11th June 2013.

• Celebrating St Edward

  In a chapel at the heart of Westminster Abbey is the Shrine of Edward the Confessor, king and saint.

• Sir James Leith

  Soldier

  Sir James Leith, army officer, is buried in the centre part of the nave. He died of yellow fever in Barbados on 16th October 1816.

• George Peabody

  Philanthropist

  In the centre aisle of the nave, near the west door, is a stone commemorating the temporary burial of George Peabody, American merchant and philanthropist.

• Olaudah Equiano (Gustavus Vassa)

  Writer and Abolitionist

  In St Margaret's is a memorial tablet to author and slave abolitionist Olaudah Equiano who was baptised Gustavus Vassa in that church when a slave.

• Harry Carter

  The ashes of Harry Carter and his wife lie in the west cloister. He was Clerk of Works at the Abbey responsible for maintenance.

• Gilbert Murray

  Writer

  Classical scholar Gilbert Murray, renowned for his translations of Greek plays, was buried in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey on 5th July 1957.

• Sir William Constable

  Soldier

  Sir William Constable was buried in a vault in Henry VII's chapel on 21st June 1655. But by Royal Warrant his remains were exhumed.

• William Julius

  Sailor

  In the south choir aisle is a tablet for Captain William Julius. The border is decorated with flowers, cherub heads and a winged death’s head.

• William IV

  William was a son of George III and Queen Charlotte. He and Queen Adelaide were crowned in Westminster Abbey on 8th September 1831.

• Frederick Denison Maurice

  Writer

  A white marble bust to theologian and Christian socialist Frederick Denison Maurice stood for many years on the west window sill of St George's chapel.

• Thomas Whitney and family

  Thomas Whitney was buried at St Margaret's Westminster in 1637 but has no marker. Many of his children were baptised at the church.

• George Darell

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Dr George Darell, Canon of Westminster 1607-1631, is buried in the south aisle of the nave but has no monument or readable gravestone.

• Peregrine Bertie

  On the north west wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a memorial to Peregrine Bertie who died in 1721 and his wife Rachel.

• Richard II portrait to go on loan to British Museum in 2012

  Westminster Abbey’s portrait of Richard II is back in place at the west end of the nave after a conservation assessment carried out by Marie-Louise Sauerberg of Cambridge University’s Hamilton Kerr Institute and funded by the Bank of America Merrill Lynch Art Conservation Programme.
