• George, John, Arabella and Henrietta Churchill

  Politician, Soldier and Sailor

  Admiral George Churchill was buried in the nave of Westminster Abbey and has a large monument. His sister Arabella is also buried. John Churchill Duke of Marlborough was briefly buried here then moved to Blenheim Palace.

  His funeral was one of the grandest of the century and the procession made its way from Marlborough House to the Abbey.

  In 1903 a statue to William Gladstone, Prime Minister, was unveiled. A gravestone, to William and his wife Catherine, was put in after Catherine’s death.

  The funeral was held at the Abbey on 28th May 1898 and several members of the Royal family attended.

  Anne was crowned in the Abbey on 23rd April 1702. She is buried with her husband Prince George of Denmark in a vault in the Lady Chapel.

  David Livingstone, Scottish missionary and explorer, died in the centre of Africa in May 1873 and his body was returned to England. His grave is in the centre of the Nave.

  Mary I ordered Anne of Cleves’ burial in the Abbey. She lies on the south side of the High Altar, her monument showing her initials.

  Soldier

  Robert Devereux, 3rd Earl of Essex is buried in St John the Baptist's chapel in Westminster Abbey. He was born on 11th January 1591.

  He died of a stroke and was given a great state funeral.

  Princess Margaret was the second daughter of King George VI and the sister of Queen Elizabeth II. She married at Westminster Abbey in 1960.

  The funeral and burial was at Windsor, with a memorial service held in the Abbey on 19th April.

• Maud Holland, Countess of St Pol

  Maud Holland, Countess of St Pol was apparently buried in Westminster Abbey but the location of her grave is unknown.

  The funeral, on 23rd April 1392, was attended by her half brother King Richard II.

  James Sartre, clergyman of Westminster Abbey, was buried in the south transept of the church on 5th September 1713. He has no monument or gravestone.

  In the Abbey he officiated at the funeral of Charles St Evremond in 1703.

  Lady Ann Walpole was buried in St Andrew's chapel on 16 August 1722 but she has no marker. She was a daughter of Thomas Osborne.
