  • Edward Vernon

    Politician and Sailor

    Edward Vernon has a marble memorial in the north transept, near the entry door. He was born in Westminster on 12th November 1684.

    Admiral Sir Charles Wager is buried in the north transept. Monument by P. Scheemakers.

  • Sir Henry Blackwood

    Sailor

    On the wall of the west aisle of the north transept is a marble tablet in memory of Vice Admiral the Honourable Sir Henry Blackwood.

    Admiral Nelson commended him for his service in the blockade of Malta and Henry served with him at the battle of Trafalgar in 1805.

  • William IV

    William was a son of George III and Queen Charlotte. He and Queen Adelaide were crowned in Westminster Abbey on 8th September 1831.

    He was a friend of Admiral Nelson.

  • John Jellicoe, 1st Earl Jellicoe

    Sailor

    John Jellicoe, 1st Earl Jellicoe (1859-1935) has a stall plate as a Knight Grand Cross of the Order of the Bath in the Lady Chapel.

  • Henry, Lord Norris

    Soldier and Statesman

    In the chapel of St Andrew, is a very large monument to the memory of Henry Norris (or Norreys), 1st Baron Norris of Rycote and his wife.

  • Ernest Rutherford

    Scientist and Physicist

    The ashes of the physicist Ernest, 1st Baron Rutherford of Nelson were interred in the nave, near to the graves of Newton and Lord Kelvin.

  • Ernest Neville-Rolfe

    Sailor

    On the south wall of St Margaret's church Westminster are two tablets of identical design to Admiral Ernest Neville-Rolfe and his wife Janet.

    Rear Admiral Sir George Hope was buried in the centre part of the nave and his marble monument is in the nearby north-west tower chapel.

  • Charles Cornwall

    Sailor

    Admiral Charles Cornwall of Berrington in Herefordshire was buried in the south aisle (presumably of the nave) of Westminster Abbey on 27th November 1718.

    In the chapel of St John the Evangelist is a tablet and bust to Rear Admiral John Storr. He is buried in the north transept.

    In the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey is a white marble monument to Vice Admiral Temple West. This is by the sculptor Joseph Wilton.

  • Charles and Gavin Drummond

    Admiral Charles Drummond and his brother are buried in the east cloister of Westminster Abbey but their gravestone inscription is now very faint.

  • Robert Blake

    Soldier and Sailor

    Robert Blake, Admiral and General at sea in the time of Oliver Cromwell, was buried in the Abbey in 1657 but disinterred in 1661.
