Abbey to light up red for 25th anniversary of Modern Martyrs

The Abbey’s west front will be floodlit in blood red as the sun goes down on the evening of Saturday 8th July to mark the eve of the 25th anniversary of the dedication of the modern martyrs.

Dean of Westminster to celebrate 40 years as a priest

Free entry to the Abbey for NHS staff as summer visiting hours are announced

NHS staff will be able to visit Westminster Abbey for free from July onwards. The gesture to NHS staff is an acknowledgment of all their hard work during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

Thomas Baltzar
Musician and Composer
Thomas Baltzar, the most famous violinist of his day, was buried in the cloisters at Westminster Abbey on 27th July 1663.

Joseph Dalby
Joseph Dalby, apothecary, was buried at the east of the south cloister on 27th July 1784. He seems never to have had an inscribed gravestone.

Soldier
Lt. Colonel Edward O'Rourke is buried in St Margaret's. He has no inscribed gravestone and unfortunately his wall tablet is now hidden behind the organ.
