Patrons lend their support to the St Margaret’s Choristers

Five patrons from across the worlds of public service and the arts have lent their support to the St Margaret’s Choristers – a new girls’ choir founded at St Margaret’s Church, Westminster Abbey, last year.

Today marks the 80th Anniversary of the Battle of Britain. It is a time for us to reflect and remember, to recall memories, to remember the sacrifices made and not least the pivotal nature of the event.

Edward and Robert Atkyns
In the south transept is a monument of marble, erected in 1746, to the memory of Sir Edward, Robert Atkyns and members of the family.

Sir Thomas Hardy
Sailor
At the west end of the nave is a monument to Admiral Sir Thomas Hardy. He is shown in Roman armour reclining on a sarcophagus.

Zachary and William Pearce
Dean and Priest/Minister
In the south aisle of the nave is a memorial with bust to Zachary Pearce, Dean of Westminster. The monument was erected in about 1777.

Ben Jonson
Poet, Playwright and Actor
Ben Jonson, dramatist and poet, is the only person buried in an upright position in Westminster Abbey. He was born on 11th June 1572.

Edward V & Richard Duke of York
The presumed remains of Edward V and Richard Duke of York are buried in the Abbey in a white marble sarcophagus designed by Christopher Wren.
