Today’s library was established after the Abbey was founded as a collegiate church in 1560. It has been in the former monastic dormitory since 1591.

John Flete
Historian and Priest/Minister
John Flete was Prior and historian of Westminster Abbey. He died in 1466 and was presumably buried in the Abbey or cloisters.

Abbey Choir Reveals Life Behind The Scenes

The Abbey held its first 'Chorister Experience' on Saturday 21st May. Thirteen boys, aged 6 to 10, attended the event which was designed to give an insight into the life of an Abbey chorister.

John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll
Soldier
John Campbell, 2nd Duke of Argyll and 1st Duke of Greenwich, orator and soldier, was buried in Henry VII's chapel but his large monument is in the south transept.

Francis Atterbury
Dean and Priest/Minister
Francis Atterbury, Dean of Westminster, is buried at the west end of the nave but has no monument. He was born on 6th March 1663.

Benedictine monastery
The monks at Westminster Abbey wore the habit of the Order of St Benedict, who established the Benedictine rules for the monks in about 540AD.

Peter Roberts appointed Headmaster of Choir School
Monday, 25th February 2019
Peter Roberts has been appointed Headmaster of Westminster Abbey Choir School and will start in September 2019. He succeeds Jonathan Milton, who is retiring.
