Thomas Gorges

Dr Thomas Gorges was buried in Westminster Abbey on 14th December 1667 but the location is not known and he has no monument. He was the third son of Sir Edward Gorges of Wraxall in Somerset and his wife Dorothy (Speke) and was baptised on 13th February 1603. Educated at Oxford he became archdeacon at Winchester and prebendary of Westminster in 1661. In 1663 he also served at Salisbury cathedral and was rector of Wraxall. His wife Frances, daughter of Walter and Alice Dayrell of Abingdon, was buried on 13th December 1662. She was born in 1604 and her first husband was Robert Hovenden. They had no children.
