Sir Thomas and Walter Hungerford

In early tomb lists Sir Thomas Hungerford, father of George of Down Ampney in Gloucestershire (seat of this family), is recorded as being buried in the chapel of St Erasmus at Westminster Abbey but no date of death is given. This small chapel abutting on the south side of the Abbey's original (1220) Lady Chapel was erected in about 1486 but had to be demolished in 1502 as the new chapel built by Henry VII covered both sites. So Sir Thomas must have died prior to 1502. It is not certain where all the burials within the demolished chapel ended up. Some lead coffins of late medieval date were unearthed during excavations in 2015 for the new tower lift in this location but these are thought to be high status ecclesiastical burials.

Also in early burial lists it states that Walter Hungerford, son of Sir Edward, was buried in the middle of the pavement outside the chapel of St Nicholas in the south ambulatory of Westminster Abbey. His wife was Lady Clinton, daughter of Sir Thomas Selenger (or St Leger). He is thought to have died before 1532.

It is not clear how these two persons were related.
