Nicholas Ellis

Nicholas Ellis (Ellice or Ellys) was a stonemason, working during the period 1529-56. He was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster on 7th November 1556 but has no monument or marker. He may have been a son of John Ellis who was a mason who worked at Westminster Abbey in the 1520s and also at the Palace of Westminster.

In 1529-30 Nicholas was working at Westminster Abbey. In 1541 he was warden of the masons at Whitehall Palace and in 1545 was a warden of the London Masons' Company. In 1547 he became Master Mason of the King's Works and leased various premises in Westminster.  During this period he was also working at Windsor Castle.
