Leonard Plukenet

Dr Leonard Plukenet (or Pluckenett) was botanist to Queen Mary II and was buried in the chancel of St Margaret's church Westminster on 12th July 1706. His wife, Letitia (Manley) was buried on 12th June 1707 on the north side of the chancel but neither have any markers or monuments. They had seven children. He was born in 1642, a son of Robert and Elizabeth and was educated at Westminster School and Oxford university. He prospered as a physician. living in a street near Old Palace Yard in Westminster, and set up a herbarium (now in the National History Museum) which included many now extinct plants. He published four volumes on botany beginning with Phytographia. In the reign of William and Mary he superintended the royal gardens at Hampton Court.
