The Reverend Tessa Bosworth appointed Minor Canon and Succentor
Wednesday, 4th June 2025
The Reverend Tessa Bosworth, currently Associate Priest at St Paul’s Cathedral, has been appointed Minor Canon and Succentor of Westminster Abbey.
The Minor Canons’ are responsible to the Dean for developing, organising and participating in the liturgical life of the Abbey, including St Margaret's Church. This includes the daily round of worship as well as major services throughout the Church year and our extensive programme of special services. As Succentor, Tessa will play a full part in this work and will share in the pastoral care provided to staff, volunteers and those who worship at the Abbey. She will also play a key role in supporting our offering to the wider Church in the area of liturgy and the capabilities required to deliver it.
Tessa originally worked in events, publishing and bookselling before discerning a call to priesthood. She started her theological training at St Mellitus College London, during which time she was ordinand at St Peter’s Bethnal Green. Tessa moved on to become Assistant Curate at St Sepulchre-without-Newgate in the City of London before joining St Paul’s Cathedral as Associate Priest.
The Reverend Tessa Bosworth said:
“I am delighted to be joining the community at Westminster Abbey as Minor Canon and Succentor. It is an honour to take up this role in a church which embodies both a rich heritage and a flourishing present. Having the privilege of contributing to the Abbey’s worship and ministry, and of meeting colleagues, volunteers and visitors will be an exciting new adventure. My time at St Paul's Cathedral has afforded me wonderful opportunities and a wealth of relationships, for which I am deeply thankful, and I will carry this formative experience with me into the next season and beyond. I look forward to embracing the opportunities and challenges of this new community with great joy and hope.”
Welcoming Tessa to the Abbey, the Sub-Dean of Westminster, the Very Reverend David Stanton, said:
“On behalf of the Dean and Chapter and whole abbey community, I am delighted to welcome Tessa as Minor Canon and Succentor at Westminster Abbey. Tessa brings with her the experience of both cathedral and parish ministry, complemented by her former employment in publishing and proof-reading. Her appointment brings the Minor Canons’ Department to full strength and I have every confidence in saying that in Bob and Helena she will have dedicated and supportive colleagues. Together they will make a strong and cohesive team”.
Tessa will begin her ministry at the Abbey in August 2025.
