Exhibition: Crowning the Conqueror
A millennium after the birth of William the Conqueror, see a specially created tapestry inspired by the possible missing final scene of the Bayeux Tapestry.
Within the medieval Chapter House, experience Crowning the Conqueror: New threads in 1066, a contemporary response to the events ten centuries ago. View how colours and motifs from the original work have been combined with symbols of power and victory. Designed by contemporary artist Hélène Delprat and handmade in the famous French weaving town of Aubusson, the tapestry depicts William's coronation following his victory at the Battle of Hastings in 1066.
This exhibition is presented in partnership with the Normandy Regional Council and MILLENIUM2027 - the European Year of the Normans. Westminster Abbey has been chosen as the UK venue to exhibit the piece.
