
An Evening with Bendor Grosvenor: The Invention of British Art
Leading art historian Bendor Grosvenor reveals the pivotal role that Westminster Abbey has played in the evolution of British art and architecture.
Amidst the beautiful surroundings of St Margaret’s Church, Bendor Grosvenor will illustrate how the iconic fabric of Westminster Abbey has been shaped by artists and artistic styles from across the world. From the French inspired ‘Gothic’ architecture to the Italian inspired Cosmati pavement, hear how the international influences present in Westminster Abbey mirror what happened within the history of British art. Discover how the Abbey has inspired artists since the Middle Ages through exploring iconic pieces of British art like the Wilton Diptych and Holbein's Ambassadors.
Copies of The Invention of British Art will be available for purchase at the end of the talk.
About Bendor Grosvenor
Dr Bendor Grosvenor is an art historian specialising in Old Masters and British art. Best known from the BBC series Britain’s Lost Masterpieces and Fake or Fortune?, he has discovered a number of important paintings by prominent artists including Van Dyck, Rubens, Titian, Gainsborough, Beale and Lawrence. He previously worked in the London art trade, and is now based in Scotland.

Timings
You are welcome to attend Evensong in Westminster Abbey at 5:00pm before the talk.Doors will open at 6:30pm and the talk will begin at 7:00pm. A book signing will take place at 8:00pm.
Meeting location
This event takes place in St Margaret's Church. Access to St Margaret's Church will be facilitated via the North Green. The exact point of entry will be confirmed via email in the week of the event.

Please have your ticket ready to show our staff (either printed or on your mobile phone).
On your arrival, your bag will be searched and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
