Sung Eucharist with the Washing of Feet
This Sung Eucharist commemorates the Last Supper, where Jesus broke bread with his disciples, and washed their feet as a sign of humility.
The service includes readings, hymns, and a sermon, sung by the Choir of Westminster Abbey.

Washing of feet
The Dean of Westminster will wash the feet of twelve members of the congregation (representing the twelve disciples) to show that Christian leadership is to be displayed through the humility of serving others. This symbolises Christ’s new commandment of love for all people.
The washing of feet originates from when Jesus Christ demonstrated his loving service by washing his disciples’ feet.
Keep watch
Following the service, all are welcome to keep watch until 9.00pm in the Nave of the Abbey, as we follow the example of the first disciples, who waited with Our Lord in the Garden of Gethsemane.
