Shhh… there are spies hidden in the Abbey! Step into a world of mystery, puzzles and spy training at our Covert and Classified Family Day.
Do you have what it takes to go undercover? Join us for our Covert and Classified Family Day, where curious minds and keen eyes are put to the test!
Step into our spy school, crack clues, listen to puzzling stories, and take part in exciting hands-on activities for all budding agents inspired by historic spies like Aphra Behn and Queen Elizabeth I’s network of spies – some of whom are buried in the Abbey:
Craft and Trail: Spy Hunters
- Make a decoder, follow the trail and solve the puzzle.
Activity: Code makers
- Practise different ways of sending hidden messages.
Challenge: Spy School – 10:30am, 11:30am and 12:30pm
- Discover your spy name and learn what it takes to become a super spy.
Storytelling: Mysterious Stories – 11:00am and 12:00pm
- Hear stories full of suspense, surprises, tricks and puzzles.
Craft: Spy Mission Maps
- Create your own spy map with Jewish Museum London.
Craft: Deception Tactics
- Learn about covert operation techniques with the Imperial War Museum.
This family day is perfect for children aged 3+ (and their grown-ups) who love a bit of mystery, problem-solving, and playful learning. Whether you're a master of disguise or just starting your spy training, there’s plenty to discover.
Remember: keep your eyes open and your mission quiet. Your adventure awaits!
All activities are drop in and timed activities are repetitions. Please note that all details and timings may be subject to alteration.
Age suitability
This activity is suitable for children aged 3+.
All children must be accompanied by an adult throughout their time at the Abbey.
Ticketing information
Tickets are free however booking is required. Booking will be available via Eventbrite from Wednesday 9th July 2025. This event does not include independent access into Westminster Abbey. If you'd like to also book a self-guided ticket, we recommend looking at the Visit us pages to plan a visit during opening hours.
Access and security
BSL interpretation will be available on Thursday 14th August.
Please have your ticket ready to show our staff (either printed or on your mobile phone).
On your arrival, your bag will be searched and we ask you not to bring any large items with you (for example suitcases, large backpacks or folding bicycles) as these will not be allowed inside and we are unable to store them for you.
