Zouch Allen
Zouch Allen, surgeon of the parish of St Martin in the Fields in London, was buried in the north ambulatory of Westminster Abbey on 28th December 1620 but he has no monument or marker. It is not clear why he was buried in the Abbey rather than his parish church.
His Life
He was a son of David Allen, a surgeon of Chesterfield in Derbyshire, and his wife Anne. Zouch was born in the town in 1586 and his wife Sarah was a niece of the famous antiquary Robert Ryece. They had a son Zouch (also a barber-surgeon who died in 1657), and daughter Sarah (she married James Greenway).
