Thomas, John & Hartwell Maude

On the south wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a memorial tablet to Thomas, John and Lucia Maude. The family were members of the firm of Navy Agents founded c.1817 as Maude & Co. of Great George Street, Westminster, later Maude & Hallett. The inscription reads:

"In a vault near this place are deposited the remains of Thomas Maude Esquire, of this Parish who departed this life on the 5th February 1818 aged 69 years. Also the remains of Captain John Maude of the Royal Navy who died on the 17th of June 1796 aged 48 years. Also the remains of Lucia relict [widow] of the above named Thomas Maude who died 16th July 1837 aged 84 years and of Thomas their second son who died 14th of June 1827 aged 49 years"

Hartwell Maude

On the wall of the north aisle is a badly corroded rectangular brass to the memory of Hartwell Maude of the same firm of Navy agents. This damage was caused by an oil bomb in 1940. The inscription reads:

"In memory of Hartwell John Maude Esq. of 14 Great George Street, Westminster who was for many years an inhabitant of this parish, where he was deeply loved and regretted. He died at Cannes in France on the 10th Jan. 1862 and this brass was placed here by his bereaved widow. 'And I heard a voice from Heaven saying unto me Write: Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth yea saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours and their works do follow them."'
