Sir Robert Lane

Sir Robert Lane was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 2nd October 1624 but he has no monument or marker. He was a son of Sir Robert Lane (1527-c.1588) of Horton in Northamptonshire who was a Member of Parliament, and his first wife Catherine, daughter of Sir Roger Copley. Robert junior was knighted in 1603, being then one of the Gentlemen Ushers to the King. He was twice Sheriff of Rutland and married in 1619 at Chelsea Dudley, daughter of Sir Arthur Gorges and his second wife Elizabeth (Arthur's first wife was buried in the Abbey). He had two brothers including William who was also an MP and two sisters. He left his estates to a cousin, William Lord Feilding, Earl of Denbigh.
