Robert (Robartes), Lord Viscount Bodmin

The Honorable Robert Robartes, styled Lord Viscount Bodmin, politician, was buried in the mid chancel of St Margaret's church Westminster on 12th February 1682 (in modern dating). But he has no memorial or marker. He was a son of John, later 1st Earl of Radnor, and his first wife Lady Lucy Rich (his brother Hender was also an MP). His ancestors had lived in Truro in Cornwall and acquired wealth in tin mining. Robert was a Member of Parliament for Cornwall, Gentleman of the Privy Chamber, constable of Caernarvon castle in Wales and an envoy extraordinary to Denmark (but he was said to be 'incapable'). In 1657 he married Sarah Bodvile and died before his father.
