Noe Laine family

A small stained glass window to members of the Noe family of the USA was given in 1995 by Mrs Linda Noe Laine, a generous benefactor to the Westminster Abbey restoration appeal. This is also known as the Louisiana window and is in Henry VII's chapel.

The window was given in memory of Louisiana Governor James Albert Noe and his wife Mrs Anna Gray Noe of the city of Monroe and in thanksgiving for the courageous families who helped settle this area of the United States. It includes the names of Mrs Noe Laine and her daughter Christel.

Designed by Albert Fisher and Peter Archer it depicts the Great Seal of the state surrounded by fourteen stars, representing the number of states included in the Louisiana Purchase of 1803, the seal of the city of Monroe, a family of immigrants travelling over the grasslands of America, the four elements of earth, wind, water and fire and the Phoenix rising from the ashes. Two American flags blow in the breeze and the inscription reads:
