Nicholas Ludford

Composer Nicholas Ludford (c.1490-1557) was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster on 9th August 1557 but he has no marker or monument.

His father was possibly John, of the guild of Parish Clerks in London. Nicholas was employed in the chapel of St Stephen in the Palace of Westminster, possibly as a lay clerk, and as organist and verger. From 1552-1554 he was churchwarden at St Margaret's.

His first wife Anne was buried there on 9th December 1552 and he married on 21st May 1554 Helen Thomas. No children were mentioned in his will but a Thomas Ludford and an Anne Ludford both married in the church. He was known for his festal masses.
