Lady Margaret Noel

The burial of Lady Margaret Noel, wife of Sir William Noel, 2nd Baronet of Kirkby Mallory in Leicestershire is not recorded in the burial register of Westminster Abbey but only on a slip of paper included in it. It is assumed the clerk omitted to write it into the official book. The entry under April 1671 says:

The Lady Margaret Noel wife to Sir William Noel, Bart. and daughter to John, Lord Lovelace, Baron of Hurly, by his wife the Lady Anne, daughter to Thomas, Lord Wentworth, Baron of Nettlested and Earl of Cleveland, died the 14th of April 1671 aged 27. N.B. She was buried opposite Mrs Chrystian Ker's monument, two foot from the corner of the Earl of Bath's monument.

So this was at the east end of the north ambulatory.

She married Sir William in 1660 and son Sir Thomas (who married Anne Whitlock) succeeded his father. He was succeeded by his brother Sir John (who married Mary Clobery). Through her son John Lady Margaret was ancestress of Lady Byron, wife of the famous poet. Sir William re-married Frances, a daughter of Humble, Lord Ward and died in 1675.
