Lady Archibald Hamilton

Anne, second wife of Lord Archibald Hamilton, was buried in the vault of Sir George Villiers in St Nicholas' chapel in Westminster Abbey on 4th April 1719 but her grave is not marked. She was a daughter of Claud Hamilton and widow of Sir Francis Hamilton of Ireland. She was married on 17th December 1718, evidently in Ireland, but died only a few months later. Lord Archibald was the youngest son of Anne, Duchess of Hamilton and Lord William Douglas (created 3rd Duke of Hamilton). He was baptised in 1673 and joined the Navy. In 1710 he was Governor of Jamaica and commanded a man of war and was Lord of the Admiralty, a Member of Parliament and Governor of Greenwich Hospital. His first wife was Anne daughter of Lord Lucas and his third Lady Jane Hamilton. He was buried at Taplow, Buckinghamshire in 1754.
