John Isham

John Isham, organist and composer, was buried in the middle chancel of St Margaret's church Westminster on 12th June 1726. He had been organist there since 1718. Nothing marks his grave.

He was born about 1680 and educated at Merton College, Oxford. He served as deputy organist at St Anne's church Westminster under William Croft and succeeded him as organist there and was also organist of St Andrew's Holborn in London. He wrote church music, anthems and songs. In 1720 Westminster Abbey paid him for copying services. A John Isham married Anne Jones at St Margaret's on 11th May 1714 but it is not known if this was the same man.
