Jane, Henrietta and Frances Hanbury

A tablet high on the south wall of St Margaret's church Westminster records the burial of Henrietta and Frances Hanbury and their mother Jane from Pontypool in Wales. This was originally on the north wall. The inscription reads.

Sacred to the memory of Henrietta and Frances Hanbury the daughters of Capel Hanbury Esq. and the Honble. Jane Hanbury formerly Tracy of Pont-y-pool Park, Monmouthshire, both of whom were interred in the vault underneath this church where the remains of their mother were also deposited on the XV [15th] of March MDCCLXXXVII [1787]. Frances Hanbury departed this life on 1 December MDCCCXVIII [1818] age LIX [59] years and was buried on the X [10th] of the same month. Henrietta Hanbury departed this life on the XVI [16th] of February MDCCCXXVII [1827] aged LXXXIX [89] years and as buried on the XXVI [26th] of the same month

Capel Hanbury (1707-1765) was a Member of Parliament and a son of John Hanbury. His brother Sir Charles Hanbury-Williams (died 1759) was buried in Westminster Abbey near Charles Williams. Capel and Jane (daughter of 5th Viscount Tracy) had a son John (1744-1784) who was an M.P. also and these two daughters. He inherited large estates in Wales from his brother and owned furnaces and ironworks.
