Jacinto de Castro

Don Jacinto (Hyacinth) Borges Pereira de Castro, Envoy Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the King of Portugal to the Court of Great Britain, was buried in the middle part of the nave of Westminster Abbey (next to where Sir J.J. Thomson now has a memorial). The name and date on the small stone is very faint. He was a colonel of a regiment of the King of Portugal's Horse Guard and died on 4th November 1720 aged 43. The burial was private, the funeral according to Roman Catholic rites having been performed beforehand at his house in Great Queen Street.
