George Slaughter

Captain George Slaughter was buried in the north cloister of Westminster Abbey. His gravestone is no longer readable but the inscription was recorded in a book published in the 18th century:

Here lieth the body of Captain George Slaughter, born in Gloucestershire and had been cornet to the first Duke of Ormond. Died Jan.1 1695. Here also lies the body of Mrs Mary Pomeroy, sister of the above Captain Slaughter who died October 8 1707

The date of death is in Old Style dating, and would now be called 1696. He had an estate at Shanbally in Tipperary in Ireland.

His sister worked for the Countess Dowager of Derby. Another sister was Amy and his nephew was Thomas Batty.
