Alice Paule

Alice Paule, wife of Dr William Paule (1599-1615), bishop of Oxford and a chaplain to the King, was buried in Westminster Abbey on 20th November 1635 near the font, which at that period was in the north transept. Her burial is not recorded in the registers but is known from other records in the archives. Her husband was a son of William Paul, butcher, and Joane (Harrison). Alice was his second wife and they married at St Giles in the Fields in London in January 1635. Almost immediately after her death he married Rachel Clitherow.

The biggest challenge we face is maintaining such a large physical collection of material within a historic building – believe it or not, there’s just not enough space for it all.
