Agnes Hardine

Agnes Hardine was buried in the middle aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey on 13th August 1720. Her original gravestone was taken up when the nave floor was re-laid in 1834 and only a small lozenge with name and date can now be seen (just above the larger gravestone to James Outram). But the inscription on the stone was recorded as:

Here lyes deposited the remains of Agnes, the dear wife, fellow travellour, and constant companion of Major Alexander Hardine above 27 years. Obit [died] 8 Aug. 1720 aged 42

The coat of arms on the stone showed "in base a dexter arm embowed, holding a sword; in chief two mullets" for Hardine, impaling "a buck trippant".
