Matthew Jorysz
Sub-Organist
Matthew Jorysz has been Sub-Organist of Westminster Abbey since 2024. He is the principal organist for the Abbey, playing for daily services and State occasions, and accompanies the Abbey Choir in its concerts, tours, recordings and broadcasts. He is also the chief musical assistant to the Organist and Master of the Choristers, Andrew Nethsingha, acting as deputy conductor of the Abbey Choir and supporting in the training of the Abbey choristers.
Prior to this appointment, he was Assistant Organist of the Abbey from 2016-2024. In this role, he played the pre-service music at the state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II and at the Coronation of Their Majesties King Charles III and Queen Camilla, including giving the premiere of Iain Farrington’s solo organ work, Voices of the World, commissioned for the service. He has also previously held the Organ Scholarships at Westminster Abbey, Clare College, Cambridge and Salisbury Cathedral.
Alongside his work at the Abbey, Matthew is active as a recitalist in the UK and Europe, a continuo player and chamber musician, and as a song pianist.
