  Henry was the eldest son of Empress Matilda. He and his queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, were crowned in Westminster Abbey on Sunday 19th December 1154.

  The ashes of Edward Algernon Fitzroy, politician, soldier, dairy farmer and Speaker of the House of Commons are buried in the chancel of St Margaret's.

  Edward Wortley Montagu, born 1750, illegitimate son of the traveller, diplomat and gambler of the same name, has a memorial tablet in the west cloister.

  The grave of Herbert Edward Ryle, Dean of Westminster, is in the centre of the nave, near the grave of the Unknown Warrior.

  The Reverend Edward Cary, sub-dean of Exeter, and his daughter Judith are buried in St Margaret's Westminster and she has a memorial tablet.

  The ashes of Edward Wiggett Thompson and his wife are buried in the Islip chapel. He was Head Master of the Abbey Choir School.

• Order of Service for the State Funeral published

  Sunday, 18th September 2022

  Buckingham Palace this evening published the Order of Service for the State Funeral of HM Queen Elizabeth II, which will be held in Westminster Abbey tomorrow (Monday 19th September 2022).

• Edward Talbot, Earl of Shrewsbury

  Politician

  Edward Talbot, 8th Earl of Shrewsbury, was buried in St Edmund's chapel in Westminster Abbey. His wife Jane erected a large monument for him.

• Elizabeth, Duchess of Northumberland & Percy family

  Politician and Soldier

  A large white marble monument to Elizabeth, Duchess of Northumberland stands in this chapel. This was designed by Robert Adam and sculpted by Nicholas Read.

• Prince of Wales installs new Bath Knights

  HRH The Prince of Wales, Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath, attended the Service and Ceremony of the Installation of Knights Grand Cross of the Order in Henry VII’s Lady Chapel, Chapel of the Order, at Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 25th May 2010.

• Joan of Acre, daughter of Edward I

  Joan was a daughter of Edward I. On the 30th April 1290 she married Gilbert de Clare, 3rd Earl of Gloucester in Westminster Abbey.
