Westminster Abbey to celebrate HM The Queen’s reign with Hockney window

David Hockney, one of Britain’s most influential contemporary artists, has accepted an invitation from Westminster Abbey to design a stained glass window to celebrate the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
After succeeding her father HM King George VI in February 1952, Queen Elizabeth II was crowned at Westminster Abbey in June 1953.

Henry’s tomb is below his elaborate chantry chapel in Westminster Abbey. His funeral armour and the effigy of his wife, Catherine de Valois, can be seen in the Abbey Galleries.

Eric Symes Abbott
Dean and Priest/Minister
The ashes of former Dean of Westminster Eric Symes Abbott are buried in the nave near the altar there, with a portland stone tablet.
He was a chaplain to both George VI and Elizabeth II and was Doctor of Divinity (Lambeth) in 1959.

The Dean of Westminster, The Very Reverend Dr David Hoyle OBE, has sent his condolences to His Majesty The King and the Royal Family upon the death of Queen Elizabeth II, on behalf of all at Westminster Abbey.
In 1937, the eleven-year-old Princess Elizabeth watched her father, King George VI, being crowned at the Abbey.

Battle of Britain anniversary marked at Westminster Abbey

A Service of Thanksgiving and Rededication to mark the 83rd anniversary of the Battle of Britain was held at Westminster Abbey on Sunday 17th September 2023. His Majesty The King was represented at the service by Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton.
The chapel was unveiled by George VI and includes a stained glass window, designed by Hugh Easton, with the badges of all the fighter squadrons that took part.

Unknown Warrior
At the west end of the Nave is the grave of the Unknown Warrior, whose body was brought from France to be buried in 1920. No one knows the identity of the person buried here. It is the only gravestone in the Abbey that we ask people not to walk on out of respect.
When the Duke of York (later King George VI) married Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon in the Abbey in 1923 as she entered at the west door she laid her wedding bouquet...

Elizabeth II
Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. Her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took place in 1947. Her funeral was held on 19th September 2022.
Elizabeth II, elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, was born in London on 21st April 1926.
