  • John Thorndyke

    John Thorndike (Thorndyke), younger brother of Abbey clergyman Herbert Thorndike, emigrated to New England in the early 1630s and married Elizabeth Stratton. He is buried in the east cloister of the Abbey.

    Airman

    In 1922 a stained glass window was unveiled in Westminster Abbey to members of the Royal Flying Corps 1914-1918 given by Mrs Louis Bennett.

  • Elizabeth Corbett and Mildred Hotham

    On the north wall of St Margaret's is a tablet to Elizabeth Corbett and Lady Mildred Hotham. The epitaph verses were composed by Alexander Pope.

  • Antoine Philippe, Duc de Montpensier

    Antoine Philippe d'Orleans, Duc de Montpensier was buried in a vault in Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey and has a monument there.

    Soldier and Engineer

    Lieutenant Colonel Sir Richard Fletcher, chief engineer to the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular war, has a white marble memorial in the north west tower.

    Architect

    A brass in the nave covers the grave of George Edmund Street, architect. His best known work is the Royal Courts of Justice.

    Actor

    Dame Sybil Thorndike, actress, is buried in the south choir aisle. Her ashes were buried on 2nd July 1976. The gravestone was unveiled 23rd October.
