• Free entry to the Abbey for NHS staff as summer visiting hours are announced

  NHS staff will be able to visit Westminster Abbey for free from July onwards. The gesture to NHS staff is an acknowledgment of all their hard work during the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.

  Nicholas Hawksmoor, architect, was the Abbey’s Surveyor of the Fabric from 1723 but he is not buried here nor does he have any memorial tablet.

  Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh and 2nd Marquis of Londonderry, politician, was buried in the centre of the north transept of Westminster Abbey.

• Sir Edward Broughton

  Sir Edward Broughton died from wounds received in the battle of Lowestoft and was buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey in June 1665.

  The ashes of trade unionist Ernest Bevin were buried in the north aisle of the nave in 1951. The address was given by Clement Attlee.

  Rear Admiral Kenneth Snow was the Abbey’s Receiver General and Chapter Clerk and his ashes are buried in the north cloister with a small gravestone.

  In the nave is a joint memorial to Captain John Harvey and Captain John Hutt who were both mortally wounded in a naval victory.

  In the vestibule of the Chapter House is a memorial to American Ambassador Walter Hines Page. He was ambassador in England during the Great War.

  Rear Admiral Sir John Jennings was buried in the centre part of the north transept, but his gravestone inscription has now worn away.

  Susanna Cibber, actress, is buried in the north cloister. She seems never to have had an inscribed gravestone and there is no memorial to her.

  Sackville Whittle, surgeon to King Charles II, was buried in the north cloister. He was born about 1631 and was a son of William Whittle.

  On the north wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a tablet to Richard Burn of the county of Westmoreland (now Cumbria).

  In the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is a small wall monument to Rachel (or Rachael) Taylor and her daughter Anne Ludford.

  Sir Clement Clerke was buried in the north cloister on 10th December 1693. His wife Sarah had been buried there on 13th November 1693.
