• Normandy Veterans lay up their Standard

  His Royal Highness The Duke of Gloucester KG KCVO, Patron of the Normandy Veterans Association attended a Service to Mark the 70th Anniversary of D-Day and the Normandy Campaign and the Laying Up of the National Standard of the Normandy Veterans Association at St Margaret's Church, Westminster Abbey, on Thursday 16th October 2014.

  His Excellency Dr Tony Tan Keng Yam, President of the Republic of Singapore, accompanied by his wife Mrs Mary Tan, visited Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 21st October 2014 during a State Visit and laid a wreath at the Grave of the Unknown Warrior.

  The Very Reverend Dr John Hall has retired after 13 years as Dean of Westminster. He presided at a valedictory Eucharist on Friday 1st November.

• Starting something special

  Since its foundation in 1976, The Prince’s Trust has supported over a million young people aged 11-30 through a range of courses, grants and mentoring support. The Trust’s work assists young people to improve skills, increase self-confidence and helps them to move into jobs, education, training and volunteering. David Williams, from the Trust’s Delivery Partnership and Volunteering Team, explores how partnering with Westminster Abbey helps fulfil these aims.

  Charles Robert Darwin, naturalist, is buried in the north aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey, not far from Sir Isaac Newton. His memorial is by J.E. Boehm.

• Abbey to light up red for 25th anniversary of Modern Martyrs

  Abbot and Priest/Minister

  Ralph Arundel was Abbot of Westminster from 1200 to 1214. He was buried in the nave of the old Norman Abbey which was later demolished.

  The Reverend Dr William Loe, alias Leo, was buried in Poets' Corner Westminster Abbey, near the entrance to St Faith's chapel on 21st September 1645.
