  • The King and Queen to attend VE Day 80 service

    Their Majesties The King and Queen will attend a Service of Thanksgiving for the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe Day (VE Day) at the Abbey on Thursday 8th May at noon.

    A memorial to Elizabeth, Countess of Mexborough is on the wall of St John the Baptist's chapel. This shows a woman grieving beside an urn.

    Her Majesty The Queen visited Westminster Abbey on Wednesday 14th May to unveil the foundation stone for The King Charles III Sacristy - a new building which is being constructed to transform the welcome the Abbey offers the millions of people who come from around the world to enjoy one of the world’s great churches.

  • Elizabeth, Lady Lumley

    Elizabeth, wife of Richard 1st Viscount Lumley of Waterford, was buried in the vault of the Earl of Exeter in St John the Baptist's chapel.

    Priest/Minister

    Dr John Heylyn and his wife and daughter are buried in the south transept. The gravestone inscription is now very faint except for Elizabeth's name.

    Her Majesty The Queen visited Westminster Abbey on Thursday 3rd October to see the site of The King Charles III Sacristy where building work will begin early next year to transform the welcome the Abbey offers the millions of people who come from around the world to enjoy one of the world’s great churches.

  • Elizabeth Gibbons, Countess of Home

    Elizabeth Gibbons, Countess Dowager of Home, was buried in a vault in St John the Baptist's chapel on 23rd January 1784 aged 80.

  • Elizabeth Palmer & Matthew Johnson

    In the north cloister of Westminster Abbey is a marble wall tablet to Elizabeth Palmer, her grand daughter Frances and grandson Mathew Johnson.

  • Elizabeth and Jane Joye

    In the north cloister is the gravestone of sisters Elizabeth and Jane Joye. Elizabeth was the eldest child of James Joye.

  • Elizabeth, Lady Latimer

    Elizabeth, wife of Edward Osborne, Viscount Latimer, was buried on 5th May 1680 together with her daughter Lady Grace. But the location is unknown.

  • Elizabeth Corbett and Mildred Hotham

    On the north wall of St Margaret's is a tablet to Elizabeth Corbett and Lady Mildred Hotham. The epitaph verses were composed by Alexander Pope.
