    King George V was crowned in Westminster Abbey on 22nd June 1911. He supported proposals for the burial of the Unknown Warrior in the Abbey.

    Westminster Abbey will mark the 70th wedding anniversary of Her Majesty The Queen and His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh on Monday 20th November.

    Musician and Composer

    Moses Snow, singer and composer, was buried in the north cloister on 24th December 1702. He seems to have had no inscribed gravestone.

  • William Pitt and family

    Statesman

    William Pitt the Elder and his son are buried in the north transept of Westminster Abbey. His wax effigy is on display in the triforium.

  • Elizabeth II

    Queen Elizabeth II's coronation was held at Westminster Abbey on 2nd June 1953. Her wedding to Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, took place in 1947. Her funeral was held on 19th September 2022.

    I have been watching the film of Edward Colston’s statue emerging from Bristol’s Floating Harbour. The statue stood on the city centre Watershed, perhaps five hundred metres from Bristol Cathedral.

    The Copenhagen Royal Chapel Choir sings at Evensong at the Abbey today, Monday 7th May as the finale of their European tour – a rare opportunity to hear one of Europe’s finest cathedral choirs, and music from the Danish choral tradition including works by Waldemar Åhlén, David Sandstrøm and Carl Nielsen.
