  Viscount Byng of Vimy was Commander of the Canadian Corps during the 1914-18 war and became Governor General of Canada.

  Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended an Observance for Commonwealth Day at Westminster Abbey on Monday 9th March 2015.

• Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman

  Politician and Statesman

  A monument to Sir Henry Campbell Bannerman, Prime Minister, was unveiled in the north nave aisle of Westminster Abbey on 12th January 1912.

• British Prisoners of War 1914-1918

  Soldier and Airman

  In 1926 a stained glass window was unveiled in the north choir aisle to remember British prisoners of war who died during World War I.

  Philanthropist

  Near the west door in the nave is the simple gravestone of Angela Burdett-Coutts, philanthropist. She applied her fortune to many charities.

• William & John Herschel

  Scientist, Musician, Mathematician and Astronomer

  A memorial stone to William Herschel, astronomer and musician, was unveiled in the nave in 1954. The grave of his son Sir John is nearby.

• Sir Robert Thomas Wilson

  In the north aisle of the nave of Westminster Abbey is a brass covering the grave of Sir Robert Thomas Wilson and his wife.

• Sir Winston Churchill

  Sir Winston Churchill is not buried in Westminster Abbey but just inside, near the grave of the Unknown Warrior, is a green marble memorial stone.

  In St George's chapel are two framed guidons of the Westminster Dragoons. These include battle honours from the South African War to the Second World War.

  Rear Admiral Kenneth Snow was the Abbey’s Receiver General and Chapter Clerk and his ashes are buried in the north cloister with a small gravestone.

  A Choral Evensong with Thanksgiving for the life and work of Archbishop Desmond Tutu was held in Westminster Abbey on Thursday 9th June 2022.

  Soldier

  Kitchener was Secretary of State for War but died in 1916. A memorial service was held in the Abbey on 13th June 1916.

  A memorial to Olaudah Equiano, the black campaigner prominent in the 18th century abolitionist movement which brought slavery to an end, was dedicated in St Margaret’s Church at Westminster Abbey on Monday 9th February.

  Airman

  The ashes of 'the father of the Royal Air Force' Hugh Trenchard are buried in the RAF chapel at the end of the Lady Chapel.

• Donald Smith, Lord Strathcona

  Philanthropist

  In the nave is a stained glass window to the memory of Donald Smith, Lord Strathcona, philanthropist. The window was designed by Sir Ninian Comper.
