The Queen approves recommendations for Abbey

Recommendations put forward by the Lord Chancellor, Lord Falconer, for the organisation, management and accountability of the Royal Peculiars have today been approved by Her Majesty the Queen.

The King and The Prince of Wales celebrate 300th anniversary of The Order of the Bath

HM The King and HRH The Prince of Wales attended a service for The Most Honourable Order of the Bath at Westminster Abbey on Friday 16th May. The King is Sovereign of the Order and the Prince of Wales was today installed as its Great Master.

William & Henry Bentinck

Several members of the Bentinck family are buried in the Ormond vault at the eastern end of Henry VII's chapel in Westminster Abbey.

Sir William Chambers

Architect

Sir William Chambers, architect, is buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey, beside fellow architects Robert Adam and James Wyatt.

HM The Queen, Visitor of the College of St Peter in Westminster, and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended a Service on Friday 21st May 2010 to Celebrate the 450th Anniversary of the Collegiate Foundation of St Peter in Westminster Abbey.

Ralph Vaughan Williams

Musician and Composer

The ashes of Ralph Vaughan Williams, eminent British composer, and his second wife Ursula are buried in the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey.

William, Duke of Cumberland

Soldier

Prince William, Duke of Cumberland, is buried with his parents and other family in the Hanoverian vault beneath the central aisle of Henry VII's chapel.

William Whitfield Dakins

Priest/Minister

William Whitfield Dakins, minor canon of Westminster, is buried in the south cloister. The inscription was re-cut in 1950 but is now rather worn.

William of Windsor & Blanche

Two children of Edward III, William of Windsor and Blanche of the Tower, have a small altar tomb in the chapel of St Edmund.

William & John Herschel

Scientist, Musician, Mathematician and Astronomer

A memorial stone to William Herschel, astronomer and musician, was unveiled in the nave in 1954. The grave of his son Sir John is nearby.

Sir William McKie

Musician and Composer

The ashes of Sir William McKie, organist of the Abbey, and his wife Phyllis are buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey.

William Wilberforce & family

Priest/Minister, Statesman and Abolitionist

William Wilberforce, MP, who took up the cause for the abolition of slavery was buried in the north transept. Samuel was Dean of Westminster and Basil was Archdeacon.

William Webb Follett

Lawyer and Politician

In the chapel of St Michael is a large marble statue in memory of Sir William Webb Follett, eminent lawyer and politician, by W. Behnes.

Sir William Davenant

Poet

The poet Sir William Davenant is buried in Poets' Corner. He was buried in the grave from which his rival Thomas May had been ejected.

Sir William Waller

Politician and Soldier

Sir William Waller, Parliamentary General, died on 19th September 1668 at Osterley House and was buried in an overflow burial ground for St Margaret's Church.

William Moore & William Morris

Lawyer

In the chapel of St John the Evangelist is the grave of William Moore and his daughter Anna Maria. The inscription has been re-cut.
