    Former choristers of St Margaret's church Westminster who died in the two world wars are commemorated by brass plaques in the church.

  • Coastal Command member visits Abbey memorial

    Saturday, 11th August 2007

    Peter Ilbery was just 20 when he joined 455 Squadron of the RAF’s Coastal Command in 1945. Flying Hampdens and later Beaufighters, he and his Australian colleagues embarked on nightly operations against German U-boats during World War Two.

    On Saturday afternoon after Evensong there was a short vigil of prayer, led by the Canon in Residence, at the Innocent Victims' Memorial for the innocent victims of the current conflict in and around Gaza.

    Abraham Lincoln’s moral purpose and his historical significance were examined in a lecture in St Margaret’s Church on Tuesday 7th July given by Professor Richard Carwardine, Rhodes Professor of American History at St. Catherine's College, Oxford as part of an evening of special events to mark the bicentenary of Lincoln’s birth.
