    In the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey is a carved shield with the coat of arms of Richard de Clare, 6th Earl of Gloucester.

    As a child he was a ward of Hubert de Burgh and heir to great estates in England.

    The Dean and Chapter of Westminster warmly welcomed The Children’s Society to its annual Christingle service on Wednesday 28th November.

    Over 500 children from local schools attended the service which has been held at the Abbey since 1988.

    Her Majesty The Queen and HRH The Duke of Edinburgh attended a Service of Thanksgiving for the Life and Work of the Rt Hon The 1st Earl of Snowdon GCVO in St Margaret's Church on Friday 7th April. They were accompanied by the Duke of Cambridge, the Duke of York, the Earl of Wessex, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent.

    Mary Eleanor Bowes, Countess Dowager of Strathmore, was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey, wearing, it is said, a superb bridal dress.
