  The Choir of Westminster Abbey is joined by The English Concert for this Holy Week performance of Bach’s moving Johannes-Passion (St John Passion), sung in German.

• John Blow

  Musician and Composer

  John Blow, organist and composer, was buried in the north choir aisle in 1708, near the door which at that time led to the organ.

• John Freind

  Writer, Physician and Doctor

  John Freind, physician and author, has a monument in the south aisle of the nave, not far from his friend and rival Dr Richard Mead.

• John Bradshaw

  Politician and Lawyer

  John Bradshaw, lawyer, politician and regicide, was buried on 22nd November 1659 with his wife in Henry VII's chapel. His body was later dis-interred.

• John Williams

  Dean and Philanthropist

  Dr John Williams was Dean of Westminster from 1620-1644. He has no monument in the Abbey and he is buried at Llandegai in his native Wales.

• John Troutbeck

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Dr John Troutbeck, Minor Canon of Westminster 1869-1899, was buried in the East Cloister. He was a son of George Troutbeck of Penrith.

• Esther John

  A statue to this modern martyr, Esther John, was unveiled in July 1998 and stands above the west entrance to Westminster Abbey. Sculptor Neil Simmons.

  A memorial to John Thomas, Dean of Westminster, stands in the south aisle of the nave. This is of marble with a bust.

  John Milton, poet and writer, died in 1674 but his memorial in Poet's Corner was not erected until 1737. He has a memorial window in St Margaret's church.

  John Windebank, physician, was buried in the middle part of the south cloister in 1704. But he never seems to have had an inscribed gravestone.

  A memorial tablet to the Reverend John Savage was originally erected in the east cloister but has been moved to the Dark Cloister.

  Dr John Leake, man-midwife, was buried in the north cloister on 16th August 1792 aged 65. He has no monument or inscribed gravestone.

  On the south wall of St Margaret's church Westminster is a memorial tablet to James I's physician John Makcullo (Maccolo or Macullo).

  In Poets' Corner is a small oval mural tablet with a lyre to John Keats. This is joined to an identical tablet for Percy Shelley.

  John Darcy died of quinsy on 6th and was buried on 11th January 1689 near one of the pews (so presumably in the Quire area).

  John Denham, a former mining engineer, gave money to set up the Warrior's chapel at Westminster Abbey (now dedicated to St George).

  A slate plaque in St Margaret's Church records the fact that John Piper designed the stained glass windows in eight bays of the south aisle.

  Dr John Buswell, composer and singer at the Abbey, was buried in the north cloister.

• John Baker

  Sailor

  Vice-Admiral John Baker died on 10th November 1716 at Port Mahon in Minorca and his body was returned to Westminster Abbey for burial.

  Scientist and Physician

  John Woodward, physician, was buried in the nave on 1st May 1728. His family origins are not known. He was taught by Charles II's physician.
