The Abbey has upheld its long tradition of marking ANZAC Day by holding a special wreath laying ceremony conducted by the Dean of Westminster.

Abbey opens its doors and welcomes two Archbishops
Monday, 15th June 2020
Two of the first visitors were the Archbishop of Canterbury, the Most Reverend and Right Honourable Justin Welby; and Cardinal Vincent Nichols, Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster.

Edward succeeded his father when he was just 9 years old and was crowned in the Abbey on 20th February 1547. He died in 1553.

John Bradshaw

John Bradshaw, lawyer, politician and regicide, was buried on 22nd November 1659 with his wife in Henry VII's chapel. His body was later dis-interred.

Near the west door in the nave is the simple gravestone of Angela Burdett-Coutts, philanthropist. She applied her fortune to many charities.

In the nave is a life size bust of politician Joseph Chamberlain. Also buried are the ashes of his son and Prime Minister, Neville.

Two actresses, Elizabeth and Maria, the first and second wives of tragic actor Alexander Pope, are buried together in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey.

A marble bust of physician Sir James Young Simpson is on the wall of St Andrew's chapel in Westminster Abbey (obscured by a large monument).

The large monument to Sir Christopher Hatton is now in the triforium, having being moved from the lower Islip chapel. He and his wife Alice are both buried just outside this area .

Sir Walter Raleigh, explorer, courtier, writer and poet, is buried in St Margaret's Church. There is a memorial tablet and stained glass window to him.

In the north-west tower chapel in the nave is a memorial to George Augustus, 3rd Viscount Howe. He was commander of the Royal American regiment.
