  John Milton, poet and writer, died in 1674 but his memorial in Poet's Corner was not erected until 1737. He has a memorial window in St Margaret's church.

  John Denham, a former mining engineer, gave money to set up the Warrior's chapel at Westminster Abbey (now dedicated to St George).

  A slate plaque in St Margaret's Church records the fact that John Piper designed the stained glass windows in eight bays of the south aisle.

  Dr John Buswell, composer and singer at the Abbey, was buried in the north cloister.

  Vice-Admiral John Baker died on 10th November 1716 at Port Mahon in Minorca and his body was returned to Westminster Abbey for burial.

  John Bligh of Abingdon Street Westminster was buried in the north cloister on 6th February 1815. The inscription on his gravestone has now worn away.

  The Reverend John Hay is buried in the south cloister. On the wall is a mural monument by the sculptor Michael Rysbrack.

  John Gay, poet and dramatist, was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey. His monument was moved to the triforium and can be seen there.

  John Varnam or Varneham, gardener of Westminster, was buried in St Margaret's Church on 15th December 1586 aged 46. There was once a long epitaph to him but this no longer remains.

  John Islip was Abbot of Westminster from 1500 until his death in 1532 and was buried in the chantry chapel he built at Westminster Abbey.

  John Dryden, Poet Laureate and dramatist, is buried in Poets' Corner. His monument, just outside St Benedict's chapel, now consists of a white marble bust.
