Westminster Abbey takes part in Cathedrals at Night

The Abbey will be open from 4.30pm - 7.00pm (last entry at 6.00pm) as part of Cathedrals at Night, a project that will see all 42 Church of England cathedrals, as well as the cathedrals in Wales and the Isle of Man, open their doors free of charge.

Thomas Whitney and family
Thomas Whitney was buried at St Margaret's Westminster in 1637 but has no marker. Many of his children were baptised at the church.

Henry was the eldest son of Empress Matilda. He and his queen, Eleanor of Aquitaine, were crowned in Westminster Abbey on Sunday 19th December 1154.

Writer and Historian
Sir Henry Spelman, antiquary, historian and author, was buried in the south ambulatory. He was born in Norfolk in 1563/1564, son of Henry and Frances.

Dr Gabriel More, or Moore, was buried in the Quire area, near the Sub-Dean's stall, on 29th October 1652. He has no marker or memorial.

George Slemaker, porter and bell ringer at Westminster Abbey, is buried in the south cloister with his wife Susanna.

Thomas Donkley, closet keeper to Charles II, was buried in the north cloister with his wife and many children. His grave is not marked.

In a vault in the chapel of St John the Baptist lie Charles Gerard, 1st Earl of Macclesfield, his daughter Elizabeth and his son Charles.
