• Radio 3 to broadcast Choral Evensong from the Abbey

  BBC Radio 3 will broadcast Choral Evensong live from Westminster Abbey at 3.30pm on Wednesday 26th May 2021.

  High above the Abbey floor, the Galleries in the beautiful 13th century triforium display our greatest treasures and tell the story of our thousand-year history.

  Richard Jones, 1st Earl of Ranelagh, his first wife, son and two daughters are buried in St John the Baptist's chapel in Westminster Abbey.

  A figure of Richard Whittington and his (ginger) cat can be seen in a stained glass window on the north side of the nave.

  Sir Richard Lane, Member of Parliament for Worcester 1727-1731 and one-time Mayor of that city, was buried in the north ambulatory of Westminster Abbey.

  Richard Brinsley Sheridan, statesman, dramatist and wit, was buried in Poets’ Corner. The inscription on his gravestone was re-cut in 1956 but is now faint.

  In the centre of the nave is the grave of Richard Chenevix Trench, Dean of Westminster, writer and poet. The inscription is by Dean Church.

  Sir Richard Price or Pryse was buried in St Paul's chapel but nothing marks his grave. He was the eldest son of Sir John Pryse.

  In the west cloister of Westminster Abbey is a memorial stone to William Richard Lethaby, Surveyor of the Fabric of the Abbey, 1857-1931.

  Richard de Ware was Abbot of Westminster from 1258-1283 and is buried beneath the Cosmati pavement, in front of the High Altar of Westminster Abbey.

• Thomas, Margaret and Richard Blagrave

  Musician

  Thomas Blagrave, musician and singer, was buried in the north cloister but he has no monument. His wife Margaret was buried next to him.

• Richard Annesley, Lord Altham

  Priest/Minister

  The Reverend Dr Richard Annesley, Lord Altham was buried in St Benedict's chapel on 25th November 1701, next to the monument of Cardinal Simon Langham.

• Richard de Crokesley

  Abbot

  Richard de Crokesley was Abbot of Westminster from 1246-1258 and a stone coffin, thought to be his, was discovered in 1913.

• John and Richard Blackborne

  John Blackborne was buried in the cloisters but the exact location is not known. Richard Blackborne, his brother, was mostly likely buried near John.

  Lieutenant Colonel Sir Richard Fletcher, chief engineer to the Duke of Wellington in the Peninsular war, has a white marble memorial in the north west tower.

  Richard Neile was Dean of Westminster from 1605-1610 but he has no memorial or portrait at the Abbey, being buried in York Minster.

  In the north choir aisle of Westminster Abbey is a large monument of black and white marble to the memory of Richard Le Neve.

• Richard de Berkyng

  Abbot

  Richard de Berkyng was Abbot of Westminster from 1222 to his death on 23rd November 1246. He was first buried in the old Lady Chapel.
