  The Abbey Choir celebrates the release of a new CD on Hyperion Records today, Friday 2nd March. Conducted by James O’Donnell, who also plays the organ interludes on the disc, Missa Videte miraculum is a compelling introduction to the work of early Tudor composer Nicholas Ludford (c. 1485 – c. 1557).

  Charles Ignatius Sancho who escaped from a background of slavery and rose to distinction in Georgian London, will be honoured when a new memorial is dedicated in St Margaret’s Church.

  Abbot and Priest/Minister

  Vitalis was Abbot from 1076 until his death on 19th June 1085. He was buried in the south cloister, at the foot of Abbot Gervase.

• Abbot Herbert

  Abbot and Priest/Minister

  Abbot Herbert, of Norman extraction, was a monk at Westminster Abbey from about 1085 and may have come with Gilbert Crispin from Bec.

  Composer Nicholas Ludford (c.1490-1557) was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster on 9th August 1557 but he has no marker or monument.

  In St Margaret's church is a tablet on the north wall to William Rutherfurd, who fought at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805 with Nelson.

  John Broxholme of Lincolnshire was a member of the Long Parliament and was buried on 5th March 1647 but nothing marks his grave.

  Sir Robert Lane was buried in the south transept of Westminster Abbey on 2nd October 1624 but he has no monument or marker.

  Sir James Stumpe, M.P. was buried in St Margaret's church Westminster in 1563 but he has no memorial.

  The King and Queen attended a Service of Thanksgiving to mark the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe (VE) Day at Westminster Abbey on Thursday 8th May. VE Day was the public holiday that marked the formal end of the Second World War in Europe.
