    Representatives from the University of Glasgow today laid a wreath at the grave of Sir William Thomson, Baron Kelvin of Largs, in the nave of the Abbey to mark the centenary of his death.

    There will be a Service of Thanksgiving later in the year for Professor Stephen Hawking during which his ashes will be interred in the Abbey.

    In the north choir aisle is a white marble memorial to James Prescott Joule, physicist. He was born in Salford near Manchester.

  • Ashes of Dr Wesley Carr buried in the Abbey

    Evensong on Tuesday 24th April 2018 was followed by the burial of the ashes of the Very Reverend Dr Wesley Carr KCVO, who was Dean of Westminster from 1997 to 2006.

    Musician and Composer

    James Hart, born 1647, composer and Gentleman of the Chapel Royal, was buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey on 15th May 1718.
