  The ashes of Sir Charles Peers are buried in the Islip chapel. He was Surveyor of the Fabric at the Abbey from 1935 to 1951.

  In a window in Poets’ Corner is a memorial panel to Fanny Burney. Her father Charles, musician, has a memorial in the north choir aisle.

  On 30th March 1876 the Dean of Westminster, Arthur Stanley, unveiled a white marble memorial to Methodists John and Charles Wesley.

  General Sir Charles Wills, army officer, is buried in the north transept but he has no monument or gravestone. He died on 25th December 1741.

  A small stone with a simple inscription marks the grave of Charles Dickens, famous English novelist, in Poets' Corner in Westminster Abbey.

  In east cloister, near the gates, is the grave of Charles Marsh, a clerk in the War Office and Fellow of the Society of Antiquaries.

• Charles I

  Charles I was the second son of James I and was born on 19th November 1600. He was crowned in Westminster Abbey in February 1626.

  Charles Herries, army officer, is buried in the nave. By the door into the west cloister is a marble monument with a bust.

  In the west aisle of the north transept of Westminster Abbey is a memorial to Vice-Admiral Charles Watson. This was designed by James Stuart.

  Charles' coronation took place on 23rd April 1661. He was buried in the Abbey on 14th February 1685 in a vault in Henry VII's chapel.

  The presumed grave of Major General Charles Worsley was discovered in the south east apsidal chapel of Henry VII's chapel in the late 19th century.

  Captain Charles Abbott was buried in the nave in August 1793. His original gravestone was taken up when the nave floor was re-laid in 1834.

  Charles Bonnor, a Queen's Scholar at Westminster School, has a small marble tablet in the north walk of the cloister. He died of typhoid fever.
