    A memorial to the Orkney-born Arctic explorer Dr John Rae (1813-1893) was dedicated in the Chapel of St John the Evangelist, Westminster Abbey on Tuesday 30th September 2014.

    Members of the Churchill family and representatives of Churchill-related organisations joined the congregation at a wreath laying to commemorate the Right Honourable Sir Winston Churchill KG OM CH TD at Westminster Abbey on Friday 30th January.

    Scientist and Physicist

    On the wall of the chapel of St Andrew in Westminster Abbey is a white marble memorial to John William Strutt, Lord Rayleigh, physicist.

  • Aaron Hill

    Writer and Poet

    Aaron Hill, poet and dramatist, was buried in the west cloister of Westminster Abbey on 18th February 1750 alongside his wife Margaret.

    A memorial to Elizabeth, Countess of Mexborough is on the wall of St John the Baptist's chapel. This shows a woman grieving beside an urn.

    Colin Williams (1942-2015) was an Abbey Honorary Steward (from 1992-2012) and a generous donor to the appeal for the restoration of Henry VII's chapel.

    Cyril Theodore Henry Dams was Minor Canon and Precentor at Westminster Abbey from 1951-1963 and Deputy Minor Canon from 1968-1973.

    In the north choir aisle is a white marble memorial to eminent botanist Sir Joseph Dalton Hooker. The memorial has a profile portrait in relief.
